Is the sauna environmentally friendly?
An essential element of well-being and relaxation, the sauna is a space that everyone wants in their own home. But given the size of the investment, one question remains… How much electricity does a sauna actually consume? Can it be environmentally friendly? Find out in this article.

Sauna power consumption in practice
After investing in a home sauna, it’s natural to worry about the impact on your electricity bills. And from an ecological point of view, it’s important to pay attention to your electricity usage. So, should you expect high energy consumption with a sauna? Find out below.
Variable consumption depending on operation
A sauna’s power consumption varies according to its operation and output. There are 2 types of sauna:
- Traditional: the stove heats stones, which then warm the air and the walls. Power ranges from 3000W to 12000W, depending on size;
- Infrared: equipped with an infrared lamp that heats the body and air directly, then the walls by conduction. More economical, its power can range from 1200W to 3000W, depending on its size.
As a result, the impact of your sauna on your electricity bills will depend mainly on its power, heating time and insulation. The larger the sauna, the longer it will take to reach the desired temperature… And, you guessed it: the higher the electricity consumption! On the other hand, if properly insulated, the heater won’t need to heat continuously. That’s why it’s so important to buy a quality sauna, and to opt for the top of the range for future savings.

Little financial impact for real benefits
In reality, the financial impact of a sauna is very low. In fact, a weekly sauna session will cost you around 30 euros a year. A derisory cost compared to a session in a sauna, and in the comfort of your own home to boot!
In addition, regular sauna sessions provide numerous health benefits:
- An incomparable feeling of relaxation, conducive to restful sleep;
- Relieves muscular tension and knots;
- Toxin elimination and skin cleansing;
- Stimulates blood circulation when hot and cold alternate.
Sauna off and zero consumption
Finally, whatever the type of sauna – traditional stone or infrared – one thing is certain. A switched-off sauna means zero consumption. So there’s no risk of nasty surprises on your electricity bill. Your sauna will consume only when you use it.
On average, our customers use it for no more than 2 to 4 hours a week, and report negligible electricity consumption. The energy cost is very low, given the incomparable health benefits.

Sauna Atelier Nordic: ecological features
At Atelier Nordic, ecology is at the heart of our concerns. That’s why we’ve developed
Saunas inspired by Nordic know-how
It is estimated that the first saunas were created over 2,000 years ago in Finland. There, wellness is an integral part of daily life. Today, there are even more saunas than cars in the country!
At Atelier Nordic, we’ve drawn inspiration from this Nordic know-how to design unique saunas. Quality materials, superior insulation, ergonomic design… We’ve thought of everything so you can enjoy the Finnish sauna experience, right from your own home.
Exceptional longevity
If there’s one environmentally-friendly feature of Atelier Nordic saunas, it’s their long service life. This is partly due to the carefully considered choice of wood.
We use two types of wood for our saunas:
- Red Cedar: Used on a large proportion of our products, this wood has unique properties. It is naturally antifungal and insect-repellent. Rot-proof and without thermal properties, it is a living product, adapting to changing climatic conditions. As a result, a red cedar sauna is exceptionally durable: it can last for more than 10 years;
- Thermoformed polar pine: less complicated to source than red cedar, we also use this wood for some of our products. Although it requires some treatment (unlike red cedar, which is used untreated), it offers unbeatable value for money. The ideal way to enjoy a low-cost sauna on a budget.
Maximum insulation
A guarantee ofenergy savings, our saunas also offer maximum insulation. The wood used is particularly resistant and highly insulating.
So there’s no risk of heat loss with our outdoor saunas. The architecture is designed to allow heat to circulate freely and naturally, with no loss to the outside. As a result, our saunas are truly energy-efficient.
Made in France
Are you looking for an environmentally-friendly sauna made in France? We’ve got good news for you: our saunas are made in France, in Annecy, Haute-Savoie (74).
We entrust the machining to a partner carpenter who excels in traditional craftsmanship. Each sauna is made to measure, for a unique result.
