Why buy an insulated spa?

Dimension One insulation

When it comes to installing and using a spa at home, it’s important to choose a good model that guarantees to maintain the water temperature at a certain level. For this, thespa insulation criterion is an option you can’t do without. There are many different ways of insulating a spa. Nevertheless, it’s only natural to ask why it’s so important to opt for an insulated spa. This article will explain why in more detail.

Why does a spa need to be insulated?

There are three main reasons for this choice.

Firstly, when a spa is insulated, the water temperature is maintained at a certain level. This has two consequences:

  • The temperature must not drop during the entire swim;
  • Over a long period, bathing is always carried out at optimum temperatures.

Secondly, an insulated spa generally saves the user money. This is because a spa is powered by electricity, which supplies its heating system. When a spa is well insulated, the heating system is much less stressed by the machinery. The direct positive consequence is lower electricity bills.

And finally, there’s thermal shock. When insulation is lacking and the water temperature is not rigorously controlled, a discrepancy is created between the external temperature and that of the water. The result is de facto thermal shock. The problem is that these shocks often lead to leaks, tears or even breaks in the spa’s plumbing. They should therefore be avoided wherever possible.

What are the different ways of insulating a spa?

Red Cedar wood Used Spa Jacuzzi

Insulating wooden spas Atelier Nordic

We use red cedar in the manufacture of our wooden spas. This is a type of softwood that is also the best thermal insulator available today. As well as offering excellent insulation, red cedar is also very resistant. To guarantee perfect insulation of a wooden spa, we use only red cedar for both the manufacture of the wooden Jacuzzi and its insulation casing. The cladding is also made from red cedar.

Two things make red cedar the best insulator:

  • Its relatively low density;
  • And the high proportion of air it contains.

As well as using red cedar in the spa manufacturing process, users should not forget to take additional measures to ensure that their spa’s insulation is always effective. This is illustrated by the use of a thermal blanket to cover the spa when not in use. In this way, your wooden spa will prevent heat loss.

Insulating portable spas

There are several ways to insulate a portable spa. First, some manufacturers use aluminum foil. This is placed between the spa shell and its cladding. The only advantage of this method is its affordability. But there are many disadvantages, and we advise you to avoid this type of model for several reasons.

Dimension One, the first brand to manufacture a 100% insulated spa

We have chosen to market Dimension One brand spas primarily to offer our customers a totally insulated spa, whatever the climate. Every Dimension One Jacuzzi uses a 1st layer of ultra-high-density foam to form the spa’s foundation. This ensures perfect insulation of the base. Then the 2nd layer of high-density foam sprayed on the walls ensures perfect insulation on the sides. The isothermal cover provides thermal insulation from the top. This manufacturing process provides 3-dimensional insulation:

  • Thermal insulation (heat retention at top, bottom and sides)
  • Structural insulation (absorbs shocks and pump pressure, reduces the risk of leaks, strengthens the spa as a whole, maintains piping)
  • Soundproofing (insulation from engine noise and vibrations, elimination of the resonance box effect).
