Tips for effective and appropriate spa water treatment
To effectively combat chronic stress or relieve migraines or back pain, many people opt for relaxation sessions in a spa. This is mainly due to the fact that the warm water in which the user spends his or her relaxing moments promotes soothing and calm. To take full advantage of the spa’s many benefits, however, the water must be treated with care. Although this treatment is easy to carry out, it is advisable to carry it out regularly, using appropriate products.
Easy spa water analysis
Because its high temperature and low volume make it a highly favorable environment for the proliferation of microbes, bacteria and fungi, spa water must be maintained with the utmost care. To do this, it must be analyzed regularly for the presence of microbes. To perform this analysis effectively, you can use strips, tablets or liquid reagents.
Strips
The best way to perform a strip analysis is to take a small quantity of spa water in a plastic container. To ensure that all the reagents in the test strip are fully absorbed, the strip should be immersed in the water. Once removed from the plastic container, hold the strip with the reagents facing upwards. To complete this operation, simply compare the results displayed with those in the bottle.
Tablets
To carry out this analysis with tablets, simply pour them into a small quantity of water taken from the spa. As soon as the water changes color, compare it with the values on the scale supplied with the tablets. For an effective analysis using the tablets, it is advisable to choose them carefully, as there are specific tablets for chlorine, bromine etc…
Liquid reagents
The process of water analysis with liquid reagents is the same as with tablets. The main difference is that the tablets are replaced by drops of reagent. Once the water has changed color, it’s time to compare it with the color scale supplied with the liquid reagents.
Filtration, an essential step in spa water treatment
For successful spa water maintenance, it’s essential to ensure proper filtration. This involves checking that the filter is working properly and cleaning it. Once filtered, spa water must then be disinfected using carefully selected products.
Disinfectants and UV systems
- Chlorine is available at a very affordable price, but it irritates the skin of some people;
- Bromine is totally discouraged by Atelier Nordic as it can cause irreversible damage to your health, especially your olfactory system;
- Active oxygen prevents algae proliferation;
- PHMB is an excellent disinfectant.
Treatment to guarantee water quality and balance
To ensure that the disinfectant used is effective, it’s also a good idea to check the balance of the water. This means paying particular attention to hardness, pH and alkalinity. Once the balance has been checked, it is advisable to correct it with a suitable product if any deficiencies are found. To prevent the formation of foam, limescale or algae in your spa, it’s best to use a variety of preventive treatment products. To enjoy the benefits of your spa, it’s also essential to maintain the equipment on a regular basis.
